Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Holds Off Plymouth State For 15th Straight Home Win

Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams returned from the Thanksgiving holiday with a 2-1 victory over the visiting Plymouth State University Panthers in men's ice hockey action this afternoon at Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.  Trinity, ranked No. 3 in the nation, stays perfect at 4-0 and extends its winning streak at home to 15 games entering a 4 p.m. tilt against Franklin Pierce University tomorrow.  Plymouth State drops to 5-2 with its first loss in five games.

After a fairly even first period, Trinity erupted for 21 shots and a pair of goals in the second frame.  Bantam junior forward Ryan Pfeffer (Canton, Mass.) took control of the puck near the left face-off circle, skated in for a close shot that was stopped by Panther junior backstop Evan Morelli (Reading, Mass.), and stuffed in the rebound for the first goal of the game with 9:53 on the clock.  Junior forward Ludvig Steenberg (Stockholm, Sweden) hit the post during a Plymouth State power play and Trinity senior goaltender Alex Morin (St. Hubert, Quebec) kept the visitors scoreless with several clutch saves late in the second period.  Sophomore Andy Chugg (Mesa, Ariz.) backhanded the second Trinity goal in from close on the right side with 2:41 left before the final break.  Junior forward Charlie Zuccarini (Shelton, Conn.) assisted on what proved to be the game-winner.

Plymouth State increased its pressure in the third period and broke through for its only goal just under four minutes in when junior defenseman Tim Perron (Northborough, Mass.) converted on passes by freshman forward J.R. Barone (West Chester, Pa.) and Steenberg on a power play to cut the Panther deficit in half.  Morelli kept Trinity at bay with 18 of his 49 saves in the final stanza, but Morin and the Bantam blue liners were equal to the task.  Morin finished with 27 saves and the Bantams held a 49-to-28 shooting advantage for the game.  Trinity also won 34 of 52 faceoffs.
