BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State (7-3-1, 3-2-1 SUNYAC) scored four second period goals to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (7-2-1, 3-2) 5-0 on Saturday night. Senior goalie Brendan McMenimen(Merrimack, Mass./Islanders Hockey Club) made 27 saves for the Bears.

The Bengals outshot Potsdam 12-8 in a scoreless first period. The Bears weren't able to capitalize on their lone power play of the first 20 minutes, but kept Buffalo State off the board by killing two penalties.

The Bengals broke loose in the second period. Michael Guerrera opened the scoring just 28 seconds into the middle stanza. At the 3:58 mark, Guerrera struck again to make it 2-0. Three minutes later, Potsdam was called for a five-minute major and Buffalo State scored twice on the power play. The Bears responded with good pressure in the third period, firing 12 shots on Bengals goalie Ian Sylves. However, they were not rewarded for their effort. Sylves stopped everything that came his way and Zach Remers tacked on a fifth goal at 12:33 to close the scoring.

Sylves finished with 26 saves for the shutout. Buffalo State outshot Potsdam 32-26 and finished 2-for-5 on the power play. The Bears were 0-for-3 on the man advantage.
