Hamline M Hockey Falls Short

It was a nice third period rally for the Hamline men's hockey team. Problem was they had a big hole to climb out of.

HU scored two third period goals but Concordia held them off from there for a 5-2 win Friday night at Oscar Johnson Arena.

Brandon Reinholz and Chad Hennum had the markers five and a minutes apart that chopped a 4-0 CC lead in half. But the Cobbers held off the Pipers from there. As a result, HU is now 3-7 overall, 1-3 in the MIAC

The Cobbers scored singles in the first two periods. They added two more in the first 5:55 of the third period to up the lead to 4-0. Reinholz started the comeback with a power play marker, his second goal of the season at 9:56.  Hennum followed suit from a goal mouth scramble at 15:24 for his first of the year, causing the Cobbers to take a timeout.

Unfortunately, CC got the next tally to finish the scoring. HU fired 17 shots on goal in the final period after getting just 10 in the first two. The Pipers shot in bad luck at times, ringing three tries off the goalposts in the first two frames.

Justin Quale played the first 45:55 in goal with Lance Knudson finishing up. Mario Bianchi led Concordia with three goals.

HU will get a quick chance to even the score. The teams play Saturday, December 9 at Oscar Johnson. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
