Reinholz, Jordan Get Two Each as Pipers Tie Concordia, 7-7

Brandon Reinholz and Russ Jordan led the way as the Piper men's hockey team found its offensive legs Saturday in a 7-7 overtime tie with Concordia at Oscar Johnson Arena. The Cobbers, however, took home the extra point by winning the shootout, 2-1. The deadlock snapped a four-game losing skid and means HU will go to the break with a 3-6-1 overtime mark and a 1-3-1 MIAC standard.

The Pipers had scored just seven goals in their recent skid. They hit that mark 31:42 into the game Saturday. Reinholz, who scored the first goal on Friday night, scored twice in the first 11 minutes of play as HU raced to a 3-0 first period lead. Jordan, last year's MIAC scoring champion, had the other first period tally and added a second period marker as well. Mitch McPherson, the current HU leader in goals with nine, scored in the middle frame as did Zack Taylor (his first college goal) and Mitch Bentfield. The latter's goal gave Hamline a 7-2 lead.

The Cobbers got one back before the end of the second frame and added four more in the third to force overtime. The five minute session was scoreless. In the ensuing shootout, both teams missed their first tries. Jordan connected on his chance to give HU a brief advantage but CC came back to score the last two and gain the extra point.

The Pipers are now off until January 3 when they play at St. Scholastica.
