BOSTON, Mass. – Nichols College men's ice hockey senior captain Scott Cuthrell has been named to the 2017-18 New England Hockey Writers Division II/III All-Star Team.

2017-18 New England Hockey Writers All-Star Team

Cuthrell led the Bison in several offensive categories this past season, including assists (32), points (45), power-play goals (seven), and game-winning goals (four). His 32 assists ranked him second in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) while his 45 points tied for the third-highest total.

Nationally, Cuthrell's 1.07 assist/game average placed him seventh while his 1.50 points/game average earned him a share of 11th place. His four GWG and seven PP goals were the fourth and seventh highest totals in the nation, respectfully.

Cuthrell's 2017-18 campaign featured a pair of four-game point scoring streaks, and he finished his career with at least one point in each of his final five contests – all playoff games for the Bison. He racked up a season-high four points (1-3-4) in a win over then-No. 2 ranked Endicott College on January 19 and notched a pair of three-point efforts during the regular season (Dec. 2 vs Becker, Dec. 9 vs Curry).

The Waterford, Michigan native found another level in the postseason, collecting nine points in five games (4-5-9) to help the Bison capture their third conference championship in five years (first CCC crown) and win their first NCAA Tournament contest in four tries. After picking up three assists in a win at Curry in the CCC Quarterfinals and scoring a goal in a win against No. 4 ranked Salve Regina in the CCC Semifinals, Cuthrell scored twice – including the GWG – in an 8-3 win over No. 3 ranked University of New England in the CCC Championship game on March 3.

Against Fitchburg State in the First Round of the NCA Tournament on March 10 at Levy Rink, Cuthrell's third-period tally proved to be the game-winner in a 3-1 win. Cuthrell recorded an assist in his final collegiate game the following weekend, a 4-3 loss to the eventual national runner-up Salve Regina in the NCAA Quarterfinal round.

Cuthrell registered 76 points over his final two seasons in Dudley to finish with 111 for his career – good for a share of 10th place in program history. His 73 career assists are the seventh-highest mark while his 45 points this past season is the fifth-highest single-season mark at Nichols.

Joining Cuthrell on the squad from the CCC were Blake Wojtala and Jack Billings of Salve Regina; Ryan Burr, Ryan Bloom, and Brady Fleurent of UNE; and Logan Day and Ross Olsson from Endicott. Seahawks head coach Zech Klann was tabbed co-Coach of the Year.

Under third-year head coach Parker Burgess, the Bison posted an 18-9-3 mark in 2017-18 (.650 winning pct.) and also won the Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational.
