Kinder Scores as Roos Square off v. Bears

Potsdam, NY – Sydney Kinder (New York, NY) netted her first goal of the season but the SUNY Canton women's hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to host SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday evening in nonconference action at Maxcy Ice Arena. The loss drops the Roos to 2-3-0, while the win improves the Bears to 2-2-1.

Brenna Wilson got the scoring started at the 7:24 mark of the opening period. Anna-Rose Bertin fired an initial shot that was saved by Roo goaltender Illie Berisha (Lake Ariel, PA) but Wilson put home the rebound over Berisha's stick side on her second goal of the season. Potsdam led 1-0 after one.

 

Jordan Ott made it 2-0 for the Bears at 7:19 of the second as she scored off a scramble out in front after Kaylen Van Wagner skated behind the net from left to right and dumped a pass out in front. The Roos had a golden 5-on-3 opportunity with 5:55 left in the second for 42 seconds but were unable to convert. Berisha made a point blank glove save off a shot in the slot with 45 second left in the middle period as the hosts took a 2-0 lead into second intermission.

Bertin made it 3-0 Bears 8:27 into the final period off passes from Amanda Peterson and Van Wagner. The Roos got on the board with 9:28 remaining as Kinder buried her first of the season. Reagan Lynn (Chicago, IL) and Logan Conger(Tyendinaga, ON) were credited with assists on the play.

Jessica Pele (Estevan, SK) paced the Roos with five shots on goal in the contest, while Tess Adams (Calgary, AB) andNoelle Niemiec (Staten Island, NY) each challenged the goaltender three times.

Berisha made 34 saves on the evening, while Abby Tardelli turned aside 20 shots for the Bears.

The women' hockey team will host its home opener on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. when it welcomes Morrisville State College to the Roos House.
