Bison fall to Becker, 4-1

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – The Nichols College women's ice hockey team fell 4-1 to Becker College in non-conference action Saturday evening at the New England Sports Center.
 
Junior Laura Christie (Hudson, Mass.) – who had two assists in a tie against Becker on Friday – scored her team-leading second goal of the season in the third period to represent the Bison on the scoreboard. Senior Samantha DiReda(Shrewsbury, Mass.) and freshman Jill Hannigan (Portland, Maine) earned assists on the goal.
 
After a scoreless first period – the Hawks scored two in the second period and two in the third to claim the first win in the series history. Sophomore Anastasia Thompson (Riverside, Calif.) assisted on Becker's first two goals while freshman Samantha Talmadge (Hamden, Conn.) scored her first-collegiate goal to lead the Hawks.
 
Freshman Brianna Luciani (Bellingham, Mass.) opened the scoring at 2:16 of the second period for her fourth goal of the year before just a little over four minutes later sophomore Claudia Gee (Randolph, Vt.) potted her second goal in as many days – which proved to be the game-winner. Gee later scored an empty-netter with just six seconds remaining in the game to seal the win.
 
Sophomore Callie Jackson (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) and DiReda paced the Bison with five shots apiece. Talmadge had a game-high seven shots to lead the Hawks.
 
Junior Lindsay O'Connell (Danvers, Mass.) stopped 28 shots in the loss and sophomore Madison Rigsby (O'Fallon, Mo.) made 31 saves in the win.
 
All-Time Series
This was just the second all-time meeting between the Hawks and Bison and the second in as many days with the Hawks now leading the all-time series at 1-0-1.
