ELMIRA, N.Y. --
After securing the 2017 UNO Classic title with a pair of wins against nationally-ranked opponents over the weekend, the Elmira College women's ice hockey team has climbed one spot to No. 2 in both the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) and D3hockey.com national polls. It's the highest the Soaring Eagles have been ranked since coming in second place in both polls on December 12, 2016.

The Soaring Eagles leapfrogged longtime rival, Plattsburgh State, for No. 2 in both editions of the national poll following wins over No. 6/6 Middlebury (4-1) and then-No. 2/2 Cardinals (4-2) at the UNO Classic, formerly known as the Cardinal-Panther Classic, which was hosted by the Cardinals inside the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena on Saturday and Sunday. The win over Plattsburgh snapped a seven-game losing streak versus the four-time defending national champions and was the highest-ranked opponent the Purple and Gold have defeated since topping No. 2 Adrian College in the opening round of the 2015-16 NCAA Tournament.

In the USCHO poll, the unbeaten Cadets of Norwich University garnered all 15 first-place votes for 150 points, followed closely by EC with 133 points. After third-place Plattsburgh, the teams voted fourth through ninth were unchanged from last week. The only new entrant into the top-10 was Wisconsin-Eau Claire, as the Blugolds went from being unranked to No. 10.

The voters from D3hockey.com awarded the Soaring Eagles three first-place votes and 136 total points, just 11 shy of first-place Norwich, which collected the other 12 first-place votes and 147 total points. Outside of Elmira and Plattsburgh State trading places for second and third, the rest of the D3hockey.com poll remained idle. Teams four through six were identical in both polls, as Adrian and Wisconsin-River Falls rounded out the top-five, followed by the Panthers of Middlebury at No. 6.

Elmira is the only United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) team to appear in this week's top-10 polls.

The Soaring Eagles will put their unblemished record on the line once again this weekend, as EC hits the road to face Chatham University for a two-game set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The league series will begin on Friday, December 1, at 7:00 p.m.
