Lakers Shut Out Cortland on the Road

CORTLAND, N.Y. — The Oswego State women's ice hockey team followed up its home victory against Cortland with a 2-0 road win over the Red Dragons on Saturday. With the shutout, the Lakers improve to 5-6-0 on the season and an even 3-3-0 in NEWHL play, while Cortland falls to 2-6-2 overall and 1-6-0 in conference action.
Seniors Andrea Noss and Olivia Ellis teamed up for the Lakers' first goal. Less than five minutes into the game, Noss gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead on a power-play. Ellis notched an assist, putting her in a first place tie with teammate Kate Randazzo with eight points this season.
Emma MorisetteSarah Grupp and Randazzo, who each collected points against Cortland on Friday, contributed to the Laker win again on Saturday. In the 12th minute of the second period, Morisette scored an insurance goal for the Lakers. The goal was the freshman's second of the season.
Amber Samonek played all 60 minutes in the net for the Lakers, recording 14 saves and earning the shutout win. The Lakers only allowed three shots from the Red Dragons on Cortland's two power-plays of the game.
Next, Oswego looks for its third-straight win when it hosts Hamilton at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Marano Campus Center Arena.
