More news about: Manhattanville

RYE, N.Y. – Senior Sarah Sinning (Southold, N.Y./National Sports Academy) recorded her second career hat trick, sophomore Amanda Sabia (Freehold, N.J./The Gunnery) added three assists, and senior Maeve O'Brien (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Fury) and sophomore Zoey Pellowitz(Arlington, Va./Washington Pride) added two points apiece as the Manhattanville College women's hockey team overcame a slow start and early deficit in a 7-1 win over Lebanon Valley Saturday night at Playland Ice Casino.

Nicole Lloyd, the lone senior for Lebanon Valley (2-3-2,1-1-1 UCHC), scored the only goal of the opening period at 14:06, despite a 20-3 shot advantage in favor of the Valiants.

After another 20 saves in the second period by Lebanon Valley sophomore goalie Jillian Moffatt, Sinning put Manhattanville (3-3-0, 1-2-0 UCHC) on the board off assists from O'Brien and sophomore Ashley Lougheed (Vancouver, B.C./Pacific Steelers). After a Manhattanville timeout, Sinning struck again just 34 seconds later off assists from Sabia and Pellowitz to put the Valiants in front.

Senior Jennifer Machin (Brunswick, Maine/Portland Jr. Pirates) added her first goal of the season six-and-a-half minutes later off assists from classmate Kristi Peters (Newport Beach, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) and freshman Madison Gneo (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School). Those were the only three goals Manhattanville would score in the period despite a gargantuan 47-1 shot advantage.

Senior Karly Kapur (Sparta, N.J./N.J. Colonials) added her name to the scoring sheet 22 seconds into the final period with classmates Melissa Stys (Pequannock, N.J./The Kent School) and Cassie Kent(Lake Placid, NY/Northwood School) each getting an assist. Senior Nicole Mensi (Mamaroneck, N.Y./SUNY Plattsburgh) added her team-leading fifth goal of the season, and the team's fifth goal of the night, just over two minutes later off Sabia's second assist of the night. A spectacular individual effort by O'Brien at 12:44 made it 6-1, and Sinning completed her hat trick 34 seconds later off Sabia's and Pellowitz's third and second assists of the night, respectively. Manhattanville finished with an 89-7 shot advantage.

Moffat was pulled at 7:38 of the third period after making an incredible 68 saves, including several in spectacular fashion, to keep her team in the game. Her replacement, Victoria Lahey, made 14 saves and allowed O'Brien's goal and Sinning's final goal.

Junior goalie Rose Pijaca (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) made just six saves as the seven shots allowed by the Valiants were the team's fewest since allowing five in a 10-0 win over Lebanon Valley last January 10, the Flying Dutchmen's then-first year as a varsity program.

The Valiants and Dutchmen wrap up their weekend series tomorrow at Playland, with the opening puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m.
