HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Junior Kelly Ferreira racked up four points to lift the Nichols College women's ice hockey program to a 6-4 win at New England College Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Lee Clement Arena.
Freshman Mel McAleer chipped in with a goal and two assists and classmate Jordyn McGuire notched a goal and an assist for the Bison (3-4-0). Juniors Callie Jackson and Kirsten Sullivan, along with freshman McKenna Gernander, also scored for NC.
The Pilgrims (1-7-1) outshot the Bison 38-31 and were led by freshman Haley Wheeler with two goals. They trailed 3-1 after 20 minutes of play and found themselves behind 5-2 entering the third period.
Freshman Abby Bassett turned aside 34 shots to earn her first collegiate victory.
Tonight's contest marked the 15th all-time meeting between New England College and Nichols College. The win snaps a two-game losing, however the Bison still trail the series, 4-11-0.
