Plattsburgh, N.Y. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams played the No. 3-ranked SUNY-Plattsburgh Cardinals even for two periods, but yielded three goals in the final frame to close the 2017 fall semester with a 3-0 setback in women's ice hockey action this afternoon at Stafford Ice Arena.  Trinity senior goaltender Sydney Belinskas (Port Orange, Fla.) made 41 saves, but Plattsburgh State junior forward Ashley Songin (Springville, N.Y.) scored the game's first goal 9:24 into the third period, and senior Melissa Sheerin (Shaghticoke, N.Y.) and sophomre Meghan Kraus (Bellingham, Wash.) scored for the home team later in the final stanza.  Trinity drops to 2-5 with its third loss in a row, while the Cardinals improve to 9-3 with their third consecutive victory.

Plattsburgh State outshot Trinity, 29-15, over the first 40 minutes but the Bantams came out firing in the opening minutes of the third, forcing Cardinal junior goalie Kassi Abbott (North Billerica, Mass.) to make five of her 22 saves.  Belinskas had six saves in the first half of the third period, but Songin netted the game-winner from Abbott and sophomore Hannah Kiraly (Glendale, Ariz.) on a Cardinal power play.  Kiraly also assisted Kraus on Plattsburgh State's late empty netter.  Trinity senior captain Kelcie Finn (Weymouth, Mass.) and first-year forward Taylor Peracchip (Wayne, N.J.) took nine of the 22 Bantam shots.  Trinity will return to action on January 3 when the Bantams host top-ranked Norwich at 7:30 p.m.
