How it works: Each week, Sports Information Directors from across the country submit week-long performances they've deemed worthy of being placed among the best in the nation in the week that was. For award purposes, a normal week will run from Monday to Sunday, so any games played on deadline day (deadline for nominations is 8pm Monday) are incorporated into the following week's award cycle.

Once we get the school and league nominations, check out conference weekly releases, and pick the brains of our own staff to get the clearest picture we can, we select among top performances by position. It's an elite group. Three forwards, two defensemen, one goaltender. Nothing else. To get here, means you're one of best performers on the ice at your position in the week that was.

To be clear, we aren't just looking at raw numbers. We're also looking to incorporate players that contributed in the pivotal moments, season defining wins, and stunning upsets that make our brand of hockey so exciting.

Don't see a player here? Think they would have made the cut? Encourage your school's Sports Information Director to nominate deserving players each week. From now, through the week following conference championship games, SIDs can submit their nominations from 10pm each Saturday night until 8pm on Mondays utilizing their PrestoSports login at http://d3football.com/nominations/award-status. In an effort to be as thorough as possible, weekly releases from our member conferences are also accepted.

Now that we've explained the process, let's get to it. Here is your D3hockey.com National Team of the Week:

Goaltender

Nick Malvin, CUW, Sophomore
Malvin was brilliant in two wins over No. 1 St. Norbert. The sophomore stopped 59 of the 61 shots he faced, including all 33 in a shutout win Saturday. He recorded double-digit saves in four of the six periods over the weekend and ended the two games with a .967 save percentage.

Defense

Michael Hoy, Adrian, Senior
Hoy led Adrian blueliners with three points during the Bulldogs' two-game NCHA road sweep at Lawrence, 5-3 and 2-1, clinching at least a share of the South Division title. He scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the third period of Friday's game, giving AC a 4-2 advantage at the time. He also assisted on Taylor McCloy's goal that knotted the score 2-2. In Saturday's contest, he assisted on McCloy's game-winner in the third to spring him for a breakaway while the Bulldogs were killing off a penalty.

Philip Middleton, Plattsburgh, Freshman
Middleton posted two points on one goal and one assist and had a +3 rating as Plattsburgh State won twice over the weekend. He provided an assist on the game-winning goal in Friday?s 2-1 win against No. 9 Buffalo State College. Middleton helped anchor a blue line that held Buffalo State?s offense, which entered Friday having averaged 4.6 goals during its five-game winning streak, to just one goal on 23 shots. He then scored the game-winning goal at 7:37 of the second period in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Fredonia.

Forward

Connor Hogg, CUW, Sophomore
Hogg lit the lamp three times over a weekend sweep of No. 1 St. Norbert. The sophomore netted the game-winning score in each game, including on Saturday, scoring with 1.7 seconds left in the second period to break a scoreless tie. He scored twice on Saturday and recorded a goal and two assists in Friday's win.

William Pelletier, Norwich, Senior
Pelletier had a five-point weekend with a goal and four assists to lead Norwich to a four-point sweep and help the Cadets wrap up their 18th league regular season title in the last 19 years. Pelletier tallied a goal and three assists, including the primary assist on the game-tying and eventual game-winning goals in a 7-5 come-from-behind win over Skidmore on Saturday for the Cadets first win vs. the Thoroughbreds in four tries. Pelletier also had an assist in Friday's 3-0 win over Castleton.

Nick Bingaman, Hobart, Senior
Bingaman, the ECAC West Player of the Week, totaled six points in a 3-0-0 week for the Statesmen. Bingaman assisted on all three goals in a 3-2 victory over then No. 4 Geneseo. Bingaman registered a goal and an assist in a 7-3 win over Lebanon Valley, and scored 26 seconds in to a 3-2 OT win over Stevenson.
