ADRIAN, Mich. – The men's hockey team improved to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the MCHA with a 7-0 win over Lake Forest on Friday, Nov. 18 at Arrington Ice Arena. With the win the fourth-ranked Bulldogs improved to 9-0 all-time against the Foresters. It was also the first time that Adrian has shutout Lake Forest in series history.
The Bulldogs continued its streak with at least one power play goal in every game this season and is now 9-of-32 on the season after going 1-of-7 on Friday. Senior defenseman Chris Stansik scored the power play goal at the 19:45 mark of the first period for his second goal of the season and first on the man advantage. Stansik scored his 30th career goal and 13th career power play goal.
Adrian led 4-0 after 20 minutes with a flurry of three goals in a span of 1:19 in the first. Kyle Gallinger scored his first goal of the season at 7:24 followed by Josh Ranalli's third goal of the season at 8:24 and Justin Basso's third goal of the season at 8:43. All three goals were at even strength against goaltender Marc Stuart, who played at Adrian College for a year before transferring to Lake Forest.
Jordan Watts increased Adrian's lead to 5-0 at 9:20 of the second period for his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Zach Graham also netted his fourth goal of the season at 18:16 of the second. Adrian led 6-0 after two periods and then Ranalli added a short-handed goal unassisted at 7:13 of the third period for his fourth goal of the season and his second short-handed goal.
Josh Cousineau finished with three assists to set a new career-high. Ryan Lowe chipped in a pair of assists for his second multi-assist game of the season. Dan Barczuk and Shelby Gray also added two assists on the night. Adrian outshot Lake Forest, 34-20, and freshman goaltender Scott Shackell stopped all 20 shots for his first career shutout. He made six saves in the first and third and had eight more in the second. Stuart made 27 saves including 13 in the opening period. Lake Forest went 0-of-6 on the power play as Adrian's penalty kill is now 28-of-35. The two teams will conclude its weekend series tomorrow at 3:00 PM.
