STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The last non-conference series got off to a good start as junior forward Dan Barczuk netted the game-winner on the power play with 4:13 left in the third and Josh Ranalli added an empty-netter with 10 seconds to play in a 3-1 win at UW-Stevens Point on Friday, Dec. 30 at K.B. Willett Arena.
Adrian (9-3) entered as the seventh-ranked team in NCAA Division III and handed the Pointers their seventh loss of the season (5-7-2). Adrian got on the board at 9:43 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Zach Graham got his seventh goal of the season at even strength with assists by Justin Basso and Jordan Watts on a 4-on-4 situation.
Kyle Heck tied the game at 1-1 on the power play at 9:00 of the second period with assists from Andrew Kolb and Johnny Meo. Scott Shackell was a wall for the rest of the game and made 21 saves total including six each in the second and third periods to improve to 5-2 in net during his freshman campaign.
Adrian went late in the third period before Barczuk got the winner on a 5-on-4 for his fifth goal of the season with an assist from Shawn Courtney. Ranalli then put an insurance goal away for his seventh goal of the season with assists from Chris Stansik and Andrew Dovey.
Adrian outshot the Pointers, 27-22, including 11-6 in the third period. Adrian went 1-of-4 on the power play while UWSP went 1-of-5. The two teams will conclude the 2011 portion of the season with a 8:00 PM puck drop tomorrow.
