STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The last day of 2011 ended on a sour note for the seventh-ranked Adrian College men's hockey team as they stubbed their toe in a 6-2 loss at UW-Stevens Point. The two teams split the weekend series and it was the last non-conference matchup of the season for the Bulldogs who now stand at 9-4 overall. The Pointers improved to 6-7-2 overall and did so in convincing fashion.
UWSP scored the final six goals of the game after the Bulldogs built a 2-0 lead after the first period. Adrian looked to be in control after 20 minutes after goals at even strength from Shelby Gray and Lukas Ciotti. Gray's sixth of the season came at 0:58 into the game with an assist from Josh Ranalli. Ciotti's fourth of the season came at 12:06 from Andrew Dovey. AC was outshot 15-9 in the first period as James Hamby had a busy evening in net for Adrian.
UWSP scored three times in the second period to lead 3-2 after 40 minutes. All three goals came at even strength as Nick Kenney, Scott Henegar and Luke Nesper lit the lamp for the Pointers. The Bulldogs hurt themselves early in the third period as they allowed a short-handed goal to Henegar at 4:47 with an assist going to Kyle Politz.
The only penalty committed in the third by Adrian came back to hurt them as Politz scored on the power play at 18:11 with assists from Kevin Gibson and Johnny Meo to salt the game away. The Pointers added an empty-net goal at 18:59 as Jon Bockmann make it a final score of 6-2.
UWSP put pressure on Hamby as the freshman netminder made 39 saves on 45 shots on goal. Brandon Jaeger stopped 23 of 25 shots for UW-Stevens Point.
