Both teams had chances to end the game in the extra session. Neumann had the only three shots and Tamane made the third one count. William Lacasse picked up his third assist of the night on the game-winner. Scott Farrell also drew an assist.
Neumann had to overcome a two goal deficit heading into the third period. Andrew Love pulled the Knights to within one 2:40 into the period, off assists from Bill Foster and Danil Guryev. Marlon Gardner tied the game at three at the 12:07 mark and sent the game into overtime. Lacasse and Tamane assisted on the game-tying goal.
Neumann had opened the scoring as Jordan Zalba lit the lamp at the 7:19 mark of the first period on a 5-on-3 power play goal. Lacasse and Gardner assisted.
Utica then scored three straight goals during the remainder of the first and into the second periods. The Pioneers held the 3-1 lead heading into the third period. The Knights did not want their season to end and continued to keep the pressure on before tying and ultimately winning the game.
Ross MacKinnon made 30 saves in net. Tamane and Gardner each finished with a goal and an assist. Lacasse dished out three assists.
Neumann (14-7-3), the No. 5 seeded team, will travel to No. 1 seeded No. 9 Elmira on Saturday evening for a semifinal game.
