ADRIAN, Mich.--Sophomore Mathew Thompson scored twice and junior goalie Tyler Parks made 28 saves to chalk up his first win as the nationally-ranked Adrian College Bulldogs defeated Northland College, 5-1, in their home opener at Arrington Ice Arena on Friday evening. These same two teams conclude their Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series here Saturday afternoon, starting at 3:05 p.m.

The 7th-ranked Bulldogs scored three times during a span of 7 minutes and 39 seconds during the first period. After junior Jeremy Olinyk put Adrian on the board with an assist from classmate Michael Hoy at the 4:09 mark, Thompson scored back-to-back goals to stretch the advantage to 3-0 after 20 minutes. Thompson's first tally of the season from senior captain Adam Davies was highlighted by having an extra attacker, taking advantage of a delayed penalty on the Lumberjacks (0-3 overall, 0-1 NCHA).

Adrian, which moves to 2-1 both overall and in the NCHA, outshot Northland 43 to 29, including a 17-4 margin in the first period which helped the Bulldogs' fast start.

The Bulldogs added two more goals in the final period. Freshman Bryan Yim notched his first career collegiate goal at the 4:14 mark on a nifty feed from the left wing boards by classmate Trevor Boyd.Yim also figured into the last goal of the night, winning a face-off at the right dot to freshman Connor Armour who ripped a wrist shot past AJ Smith.

Parks' shutout bid was spoiled early in the second period by Petter Bülling's power-play goal, his first of the season, with the Lumberjacks working a 5-on-3 man-advantage. Cody Longie assisted on the play. But Parks earned his first win in an Adrian jersey.

The Bulldogs now stand 8-1 in home openers all-time, including a 2-0 mark during the Adam Krug '12 coaching era.
