OSWEGO, N.Y.--The Adrian College men's hockey team started the New Year where it left off 2015...with another win.
The Bulldogs (No. 2 D3hockey, No. 4 USCHO) spotted Williams College a 1-0 lead in the first period, but scored four times in the second to whip the Ephs (No. 13 USCHO, No. 14 D3hockey) in a game of nationally-ranked squads on Saturday to open the Pathfinder Bank Classic on the campus of SUNY Oswego.
Adrian, which is unbeaten in its last 10 starts to improve to 9-1-1 on the season, will play the winner of the contest between Castleton State and the host Lakers at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Classic championship game.
Sam Gray took a feed from Luke Stickel to give Williams (5-3-1 overall) an early advantage just 3 minutes and 39 seconds after the opening faceoff. For Gray and Stickel, it was their first goal and assist of the 2015-16 campaign. Williams outshot 13-9 to take that one-goal lead into the first intermission.
The Bulldogs, however, turned the tables in the middle stanza by scoring four goals on 12 shots. Freshman Cameron Cooper tied it 1-all with his first career AC goal at the 2:33 mark on a pass from classmate Connor Armour. Then just 2:51 later, sophomore alternate captain Mathew Thompson put the Bulldogs in front for good at 5:24 with his seventh tally on the season, with assists credited to sophomore Taylor McCloy and junior Michael Hoy.
