BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Six different players found the back of the net for the University of New England, which defeated the University of Southern Maine by a 7-2 tally in men's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon (Nov. 25) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Nor'easters (4-3-1) overcame a very early deficit to lead 3-1 after the 1st period, and doubled the margin to 6-2 by the end of 40 minutes.
UNE had three power-play goals in the middle frame, two of which came from Tucker Ross. [Watch 1 / Watch 2] The other was scored by Brett Mecrones to establish the four-goal cushion at the conclusion of the 2nd. [Watch]
After the Huskies (1-6-1) struck just 37 seconds into the contest, the home side responded with goals by Adam Canepa, Pavel Tereshchenko, and Tyler Seltenreich before the midway mark of the stanza. [Watch Canepa / Watch Tereshchenko / Watch Seltenreich] Later in the period, and into the next, UNE survived more than four minutes on the penalty kill, during which goalie Ben Churchfield denied all eight shots that were sent his direction.
Liam Neuman capped the day for the Nor'easters in the 3rd. [Watch] Both Neuman and Seltenreich added assists for two points on the day, while Ryan Burr and Brady Fleurent each registered three helpers. Christian Rossetti chipped in with a pair of assists.
Churchfield finished with 36 saves to earn his second victory of the week.
Scoring for Southern Maine was Tyler Mathieu and Parker Sanderson. Anthony D'Alosio turned in 28 stops through two periods of work, before Stephen D'Urso logged 10 saves the rest of the way.
UNE gets back to its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) slate on Friday (7 p.m.) with the opener of a home-and-home series against Suffolk University.
