King's Men's Hockey Fall to 14th Ranked Utica 6-1

UTICA, NY -- Roman Ammirato scored three goals to lead the 14th ranked Utica College men's hockey team to a 6-1 victory over King's College Saturday night at the ADK Bank Center in Utica, NY.

With the win, Utica improved to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference while King's fell to 0-10 and 0-5.

Utica took a 1-0 lead 6:37 into the game when Kevin Valenti scored off assists from Zach Borsoi and Brett Szajner.

King's countered with 0:38 left in the first period when Nicholas Palumbo found the back of the net on assists by Tyler Wilding and Luciano Bucci.

Utica would take a 2-1 lead 5:37 into the second period when Ammirato scored off assists by Brett Everson and Zach Borsoi.

The Pioneers added two more goals in the frame as Brett Szajner scored with 6:58 left in the period before Ammirato added his second goal of the game with just 0:09 left to give Utica a 4-4 lead heading into the final frame.

In the third period, Greg Burmaster scored with 13:36 remaining before Ammirato recorded his third goal with 4:29 left to set the final score.

Utica outshot King's 61-15 and held a 42-30 advantage in faceoffs won. Link Ferch made 55 saves in goal for the Monarchs, the fourth highest total in NCAA Division III this season.

The Monarchs will play its final games of the first semester Friday at 7:00 PM at Lebanon Valley College in Annville. The Monarchs will then travel to Pittsburgh to play Chatham University at 7:20 PM.
