BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Ryan Bloom and Brady Fleurent combined for four tallies and five assists as the University of New England secured a 7-5 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey result against Nichols College on Saturday night (Nov. 11) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The win gives the season series to the Nor'easters (2-1-1, 2-1-1 CCC), following the tie between the squads last night in Rhode Island.

UNE never trailed in the contest, after Derek Mecrones opened the scoring with 4:35 gone [Watch]. Nichols got it back 1:24 later on a goal by D.J. Goldstein, but Max Rasberg grabbed a lead (2-1) for the hosts at the 1st intermission. [Watch]

Fleurent notched his first of the season to start the 2nd [Watch], only to see Oliver Arnberg counter for the Bison 28 seconds later and then J.B. Baker level things up at 3-all with a short-handed marker before the midway point in the match. However, Chris Jones and Bloom restored the two-goal cushion (5-3) for UNE as the middle session continued. [Watch Jones] [Watch Bloom]

After Bloom bumped the margin to 6-3 early in the 3rd [Watch], back-to-back power-play goals by Arnberg kept Nichols within striking distance. But Fleurent padded the advantage with less than five to play and the Nor'easters held on from there. [Watch]

Bloom's three assists were followed by two apiece from Fleurent, Dylan BengtsonLiam Neuman, and Tyler Seltenreich. In goal for UNE, Ben Churchfield recorded 21 saves for the victory.

For the Bison (3-2-1, 2-1-1 CCC), Colin Brennan logged 40 saves in 50:35 of action. Baker supported Arnberg's hat trick with three assists, and two more came from both Filip Virgili and David Chevrier.

The Nor'easters will next visit Salve Regina University on Friday.
