BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England netted all five goals scored during the 2nd period to open up a tied match, on the way to an 8-4 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey victory over Johnson & Wales University (R.I.) on Friday night (Nov. 3) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

It was the 2017-18 season-opener for the Nor'easters (1-0, 1-0 CCC), who had 11 different players register a point on the evening.

Tyler Seltenreich was the only multiple goal-scorer for UNE with two. Jeff Eppright added one as well as three assists. Dylan BengtsonChris Jones, and Max Rasberg all scored once and helped on another. Andrew Slotnick notched a pair of assists.

Jones got the UNE offense started just 1:43 into the match. Johnson & Wales then leveled the score at 1-1 with 7:22 gone, on a goal by Nicholas Pezza.

Bengtson made it 2-1 in favor of the Nor'easters just 89 seconds into the 2nd, and Christian Rossetti tacked on another at the 10:09 mark. Power-play goals from Seltenreich and Eppright, just 50 ticks apart, came next, before that duo connected for a give-and-go shorthanded score later in the period.

The Wildcats (0-2, 0-1 CCC) took advantage of a five-minute power-play to start the 3rd, and got two back (6-3) off the sticks of Craig Hessenius and Connor Bechtel.

Brett Mecrones put his name on the score sheet to make it 7-3 and stop the momentum shift for UNE. Chad Guderian for JWU and Rasberg for the hosts capped the tally log down the stretch.

Between the pipes for the Nor'easters, Payton Porter turned in 17 saves. On the opposite side, Tyler Ellor recorded 18 saves against five goals allowed, prior to Anthony Giordano finishing up with 13 saves the rest of the way.

The two teams will square off again Saturday (7:05 p.m.) in Pawtucket, R.I.
