EVERETT, Mass. -- Jeff Eppright and Derek Mecrones each pocketed two goals as No.12 University of New England kept its hot streak going with a 6-4 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Friday night (Jan. 19) at Allied Veterans Rink.

Winners of a program-record eight straight games, and unbeaten in the last 12 (11-0-1), the nationally-ranked Nor'easters now stand at 13-3-2 overall and 6-3-2 in league play.

UNE never trailed in the contest, as Eppright scored on the power-play with 1:53 elapsed. The Leopards tied things up on a goal by CJ Grinnell less than two minutes later, but Mecrones at the midway mark of the opening frame put the visitors ahead for good (2-1).

After Andrew Slotnick notched a power-play tally just 1:11 into the 2nd to make it 3-1 in favor of the Nor'easters, the teams traded scores the rest of the evening. Mecrones got his second sandwiched between WIT's Jake Hallisey and Ethan Weiss during the middle session as the difference was one (4-3) through 40 minutes of action.

Brendan Donohue upped it to 5-3 early in the 3rd, only to see Nate Chase bring the Leopards back at the 11:09 mark. However, Eppright's empty-net marker with 1:07 on the clock sealed the result for UNE.

Dimitris Jones had two assists for the attack, and Donohue also ended with two points. Between the UNE pipes, Tate Sproxton recorded 32 saves.

For Wentworth (5-10-3, 3-5-3 CCC), Ryan Hubbard turned aside 26 shots.

The squads will venture North and square off again on Saturday night (7 p.m.) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
