OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 3/4 Oswego State men's ice hockey fell to Plattsburgh, 1-0, at home on Saturday night to conclude the regular season. With the loss, Oswego moves to 18-5-2 on the season and 13-2-1 in SUNYAC play, while Plattsburgh improves to 13-11-1 overall and 7-8-1 in conference action. At the conclusion of the game, the Lakers honored Trent Durocher, David Ferreira and Mitch Herlihey for Senior Day.
Oswego pressured Plattsburgh throughout the night, ultimately outshooting the Cardinals, 35-10. The Lakers dominated in the faceoff circle as well, winning 34 of 53 faceoffs.
One of the Lakers' best offensive opportunities of the night came with a little over 14 minutes left in the third period. Ferreira rushed down the ice, sending a shot towards the Plattsburgh goal, but the shot bounced off the crossbar. Jody Sullivan nearly had a chance at the rebound, but it fluttered over his stick.
David Richer, the reigning SUNYAC Goalie of the Week, stopped nine shots by the Cardinals. Richer and the Lakers killed all three of their penalties on the night.
Next, the Lakers enter the SUNYAC Championship. As the top seed, Oswego will receive a bye for the first round before playing host at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at the box office.
