ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's University completed a weekend sweep of the St. Olaf College men's hockey team by blanking the Oles, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
Saint John's (5-2-1, 3-1-0 MIAC) got goals from four different skaters and scored in each period, including twice in the third to pull away. A day after being held to 13 shots on goal, St. Olaf (3-4-1, 1-2-1 MIAC) managed 28 shots on goal but could not find a way past Andrew Lindgren, who collected the shutout victory for the Johnnies.
For the second game in as many days, Saint John's capitalized on its first power-play opportunity of the game in the first period, getting a one-timer from Travis Brown at 17:37 that beat Noah Parker on the blocker side from the top of the left circle. A couple minutes earlier, Kyle Rimbach had a chance to grab the opening goal when he got in down the right in a 1-on-1 but was denied by Lindgren.
The Johnnies doubled their advantage at 11:09 of the second when Braden Altena capitalized on a loose puck in front of the goal after a shot came back off the boards behind the goal and Altena was on hand for his first-career goal.
St. Olaf nearly got within a goal in the closing seconds of the second period when Tyler Bump, who collected his first collegiate goal and an assist the night before, was thwarted by Lindgren in front of the net during a late-period Ole power play.
Saint John's put the game away with two goals a minute apart late in the third period. Evan Okeley scored his second goal of the weekend at 14:28 and Brady Dahl added his first collegiate goal 60 seconds later for the Johnnies.
Parker had double-digit saves in each period and finished with 37 for the game for the Oles, who were outshot 41-28 in the game. Saint John's killed off all three of St. Olaf's power plays and was 1-for-4 on the man advantage.
Next up for the Oles is a series at Concordia College (Minn.), beginning with a 7 p.m. matchup in Moorhead on Friday, Nov. 30.
