BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England men's ice hockey team picked up a 6-2 victory over #9 Endicott in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action in front of a packed house at the Harold Alfond Forum on Friday night.
Brett Mecrones started things off for the Nor'easters (15-5-1, 9-4-0 CCC) as he put home the rebound after a shot by Alexander Vukota midway through the opening period [Watch]. Tucker Ross found CCC Rookie of the Week Austin Morgan in the slot to extend the lead to 2-0 with 2:07 to play in the first. [Watch]
Mecrones stuffed in his second of the night early in the second period as UNE jumped in front 3-0 [Watch]. Endicott (14-5-2, 8-5-0 CCC) cut the deficit to two goals on a score by Jason Kalinowski later in the period.
Liam Neuman and Ryan Bloom put the game out of reach with two goals just 20 seconds apart to start the final period [Watch] [Watch]. Jack Kilty added a marker for the Gulls to make it 5-2 with 11:58 to play. Liam Darcy finished the scoring for the Nor'easters with his fourth of the season. [Watch]
Penalties were the story of the night with the teams combining for 102 minutes in the box. UNE was able to take advantage with one power-play score.
Ben Churchfield made 28 saves for the Nor'easters while Conor O'Brian had 29 stops for the visitors.
The teams return to the ice tomorrow afternoon at Bourque Arena in Beverly, Mass. at 3 p.m.
