BEVERLY, Mass. – The University of New England men's ice hockey team defeated #9 Endicott 7-0 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup at Bourque Arena in Beverly, Mass. on Saturday afternoon. The shutout marks the first of the season for the Gulls (14-6-2, 8-6 CCC), the nation's highest-scoring team, as UNE outscored Endicott 13-2 in two wins over the weekend.
Brendan Donohue got the scoring started for the Nor'easters (16-5-1, 10-4 CCC) with a power-play goal, his first of two on the day, at the 8:06 mark of the first. Ryan Bloom made the score 2-0 after a period with his team-leading 15th goal of the season.
Austin Morgan continued his hot play with back-to-back goals to start the second period. The freshman has recorded 10 points (seven goals, three assists) over the last four games, including three multi-goal outings. Chris Jones put in his first of the season on a power-play to extend the UNE advantage to 5-0 after two.
Derek Mecrones and Donohue each added tallies in the third as the Nor'easters rolled to an important victory.
Ben Churchfield made 19 stops to earn his third shutout of the year. Conor O'Brian (25) and Elijah Harris (11) combined for 36 saves for Endicott.
UNE returns home on Friday, Feb. 8 against Nichols. Puck drops at the Harold Alfond Forum at 7 p.m.
