BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Carly Perreault (FR/Berlin, N.H.) scored two goals and added two assists to help the University of New England to an 8-0 victory over Salem State University in a non-league women's ice hockey game played Sunday afternoon (Nov. 29) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Nor'easters, who held a commanding 62-8 advantage in shots, improved their record to 3-4-1 while the Vikings fell to 3-6-0. The win was UNE's second shutout of Salem State in the past six days.

UNE started quickly, scoring twice in the game's opening 7:22 to establish control. Emily Corrales (JR/West Hartford, Conn.) tallied the initial goal, carrying the puck behind the net and stuffing home a shot from the left doorstep. Haley Gorman would double the Nor'easters' advantage less than six minutes later when her tip of a Melissa Boudreau (JR/Lombard, Ill.) shot went straight up in the air and off the back of Salem State goalie Katherine Crane (FR/Arlington, Mass.) into the goal.

The Nor'easters scored three times in the middle period while outshooting Salem State 23-2. Gabriella Moscato (JR/Wakefield, Mass.) converted a rebound of a Gabby Crugnale (JR/Malden, Mass.) wrister to start the scoring at 4:04 of the frame. The lead was extended to 4-0 when Julianne Sheehan (FR/Chelmsford, Mass.) poked in the puck from the top of the crease five minutes later, and UNE made it 5-0 at 15:28 on Perreault's first marker of the afternoon.

UNE tacked on a trio of goals in the final frame. Mary Wirth (JR/South Elgin, Ill.) rifled home a wrister from the slot at 3:03 to make the score 6-0 before Perreault's slap shot from just inside the blue line on the right side made the tally 7-0 at 12:56. Marissa Clifford-Biederman (SR/Lee, N.H.) closed out the scoring with a power-play goal with just over five minutes remaining.

Sheehan had a three-point afternoon for the Nor'easters, who received two-point performances from Wirth, Corrales, Moscato, Crugnale and Gorman.

Sydney Helmbrecht (JR/Grand Rapids, Minn.) had four saves in the first period to earn her third win of the season. Samantha Scobee (SR/Minnetrista, Minn.) came on to record four stops in 33:51 of playing time before giving way to Giana Rifici (FR/Laurel Springs, N.J.), who went the rest of the way in goal.

Crane had a busy day between the pipes for Salem State, totaling 45 saves. Molly Millett (SO/Lowell, Mass.) had nine in just over 12 minutes of action in relief of Crane.

The Nor'easters will host a two-game series with SUNY Canton next Friday and Saturday, while the Vikings play a home game versus Plymouth State University Saturday.
