Women’s Hockey Drops Road Tilt at No. 9 Trinity


Hartford, CT – The SUNY Canton women's hockey team ran into stiff competition as they dropped a 7-0 pre-Thanksgiving road tilt at No. 9 nationally-ranked Trinity College on Tuesday evening.

The Bantams (1-2) scored two goals in the opening period as Melissa Maffeo opened the scoring at 12:37 and then assisted a Cheeky Herr goal to give the hosts a 2-0 lead after one.

Trinity had three different players score in the middle period and capitalized on special teams scoring at 8:22 on the power play. The Bantams then added their fourth goal of the game just 32 seconds later and closed out the period with a shorthanded tally.

The Bantams added two more scores in the last 3:15 of the contest for the 7-0 final. Roo goaltender Illie Berisha (Lake Ariel, PA) turned aside 43 shots for SUNY Canton, while Sydney Belinskas made 16 saves in the shutout for Trinity.

Tess Adams (Calgary, AB) led the Roos with four shots on goal, while Noelle Niemiec (Staten Island, NY) added three shots on target.

The women's hockey team is back in action on Friday, December 4th when they visit the University of New England for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
