CHS BOX SCORE
Boston, MA – Tess Adams (Calgary, AB) scored for the third consecutive game but the SUNY Canton women's hockey team fell at the hands of Endicott College, 4-1, in the consolation game of the Codfish Bowl on Tuesday.
Dynnea Bezona opened the scoring on the power play at 14:19 of the first on her fourth tally of the season to give the Gulls (7-3-2) the early lead. Sophomore Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) made nine first period saves to keep the Roos (4-9-1) within one after 20 minutes of play.
Endicott netted goals 2:48 apart in the middle period as Jordyn Cholish scored her first of the season and Holly Erbe beat the opposing goaltender for the third time. DiNardo's 14 second period saves kept the Roos in striking distance heading into the third.
Adams scored her team-leading 12th of the season at 7:40 of the third to get the Roos within two. The power play goal was her sixth with the skater advantage this season as Anna Lagzdina (Ozolnieki, Latvia) and Noelle Niemiec (Staten Island, NY) picked up helpers on the play.
SUNY Canton pulled the goaltender with 1:23 remaining but just 13 seconds later the Gulls slotted an empty-net goal to seal the win. The Roos held 15-6 advantage in shots over the final 20 minutes of action. Adams and Niemiec paced SUNY Canton with seven shots on goal apiece.
DiNardo stopped 28 shots on the day, while Vendela Jonsson turned aside 27 shots. Endicott went 2-for-5 on the power play, while the Roos were 1-for-4 with the extra skater.
For her performance during the tournament Tess Adams was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Roos and Gulls both competed in the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC), but today's contest served as a non-league game. The Gulls will visit the Roos for a weekend CHC series on January 29th and 30th in the Roos House.
The women's hockey team returns to home ice this weekend when they host Buffalo State College for a series on Saturday and Sunday. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
