Holy Cross Defeats No. 10 Women’s Ice Hockey, 4-0

RUTLAND, Vt. – The No. 10 nationally ranked Endicott women's ice hockey team fell to Holy Cross, 4-0, on Sunday night in the championship game of the Rutland Herald Invitational (RHI), hosted by Castleton University.

Holy Cross is now 12-2-0 overall on the season, while Endicott dropped its first game of the 2016-17 season (12-1-1).

Sam Girard (Dedham, Mass.) scored twice and dished out one assist, while the Crusaders received goals from Elizabeth Scala (Rumford, R.I.) and Tori Messina (Hingham, Mass.) in the win.

Holy Cross junior goaltender Tessie Salatas (Laval, Quebec) stopped 18 shots in the victory (6-2-0), and Endicott freshman netminder Alyssa Peterson (Cranberry Township, Pa.) had a career-high 34 saves in the loss (3-1-0).


  • Endicott entered tonight's game as the only undefeated team among all NCAA Division programs in the country. 
  • Ellen Carter (Roseville, Minn.) and Courtney Walpole (Allen, Texas) were named to the RHI All-Tournament Team.


  • Holy Cross has won the last five RHI championship games.
  • Girard was named the RHI Tournament MVP, while Elizabeth Scala (Rumford, R.I.) and Kara Violette (Greene, Maine) also claimed spots on the RHI All-Tournament Team.


Endicott (12-1-1) travels to Middlebury next Saturday for a non-conference game at 3 PM. Holy Cross (12-2-0) visits Castleton on Friday, January 13 at 7 PM.
