Utica Downs Chatham in ECAC West Action

UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's hockey team topped visiting Chatham University 3-1 in ECAC Women's West Conference action at the Utica Memorial Auditorium on Friday afternoon. UC's Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire), Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) and Jane Pagano (Erie, PA/Tabor Academy) each registered two points in the victory.

The Pioneers improved to 10-8-1 overall and 5-6-1 in ECAC West action.  They return to the ice to complete the weekend set against the Cougars at home on Saturday (3 p.m.). Utica will celebrate senior day on Saturday and will honor its five seniors in a ceremony prior to the game. The Pioneers remain unbeaten at home this season and improved to 5-0-1 at the Aud.

Utica jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead behind goals from Osowski and Schnepp. Osowski got the Pioneers on the board 4:35 into the contest with her sixth goal of the season.  She was assisted by Schnepp and Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects). The point for Dohner, who was recently named to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week, was her fourth in the last three games.

Osowski then returned the favor with 2:31 left in the first period as she assisted Schnepp to give the Pioneers a 2-0 advantage. Senior Jane Pagano (Erie, PA/Tabor Academy) also earned an assist on the Pioneers' second goal, her seventh assist of the season.

Chatham's Kaitlyn Perrins cut the Cougars deficit to 2-1 just 1:48 into the second period when she batted home her second goal of the season. Erika Martin and McKenzie Haskins assisted the on the Chatham goal.

Junior defender Samantha Husak (Jackson, MI/Grass Lake) added the insurance empty netter for the Pioneers with just two seconds left on the game clock to help the home team earn a two goal victory.  Meghan Power (Windsor, Ontario/Southwest Wildcats) registered her 12th assist of the season and Pagano posted her second helper of the night.

Senior goalie Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) stopped 18 shots as she earned her eighth victory of the season.  The Pioneers have now held opponents to one goal or less in nine games this season.

Chatham goalie Sydney Isbell stopped 36 shots as her record moved to 3-12-1 overall on the season.

Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) now needs three assists to overtake former All-American Megan Myers for third on the College's all-time list. Schnepp currently has 67 career assists.

The Pioneers out shot the visitors 39-19 on the afternoon and UC also went 1-for-4 on the power-play.
