CANTON, N.Y. – Margret Troiano and Alyssa Hein scored goals as the Roos held a 51-18 shots advantage on their way to a 2-1 win versus Becker College in the Colonial Hockey Quarterfinals on Saturday evening.

The Roos will advance to semifinal weekend where they will face Morrisville State next Saturday at 4 p.m. No. 1 seed Endicott College will host the semifinals and championship on Saturday and Sunday.

The Roos (14-10-2) killed off 45 seconds of a Becker 5-on-3 power play 13 minutes into the contest and then late in the period Canton had a two-skater advantage of its own. Just 12 seconds into the 5-on-3 the Roos converted as Whitney Bernier won the faceoff back to Troiano behind the right circle.

She swung the puck to Jessica Pele who found Sydney Jordan at the point. Jordan hit Troiano with a cross-ice pass below the right circle as she lifted a beautiful shot over the left shoulder of Madison Rigsby into the upper netting. Canton held a 19-9 shots advantage after 20 minutes of play.

The Roos doubled their lead at 12:42 of the second when Whitney Bernier slid a pass across the low slot to Alyssa Hein who buried her first goal of the season on the power play. Jordan also earned a helper on the play.

The Hawks (8-16-2) trimmed the deficit to one at 6:39 of the third period on a Bailey Coons wrist shot in the slot over the high blocker side of Brooke Susac. Jeffries earned a helper on the play.

Becker pulled Rigsby with 22 seconds remaining but the Roos held off a late charge including a faceoff in their defensive zone with 4.5 seconds left for the 2-1 win.
