Lyons scores twice to lift Bison past Monarchs, 4-2

PITTSTON, Pa. – Junior MacKenzie Lyons scored her first two collegiate goals to lift the Nichols College women's ice hockey program to a 4-2 win over King's College (PA) Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Revolution Ice Centre.
Freshman McKenna Gernander added a goal and assist for the Bison, who improved to 7-5-0 on the season and outshot the Monarchs 49-17.
Lyons opened the scoring at 11:58 of the first when she potted her first collegiate goal off a feed from Gernander. The Monarchs knotted the game at one in the second, then took a 2-1 lead 6:24 into the third before the Bison ripped off three-straight to seal the win and return to Dudley .500 on their road trip.
Senior captain Emily Barden tied the game at two with her third goal of the campaign at 12:45. Less than two minutes later, Gernander's fifth of the season put the Bison ahead 3-2 before Lyons' power-play marker at 16:15 padded the lead.
Freshman netminder Abby Bassett turned aside 15 shots to improve to 3-0-0 on the season.

This afternoon's contest marked the inaugural meeting between Kings College (PA) and Nichols College. The Bison now lead the series, 1-0-0.
