Oswego downs Bears, 4-1

OSWEGO, N.Y.—Oswego State (7-7, 4-3 NEWHL) scored two first period goals en route to a 4-1 win over the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (8-5-1, 1-5-1) on Friday night. Junior forward Tatum Walber(Orchard Park, N.Y./Buffalo Regals) scored for the Bears.
Andrea Noss accounted for all the offense in the first period. She put the Lakers up at the 4:43 mark. She struck again at 13:46 for a 2-0 lead. The Bears had two power plays in the first 20 minutes, but were unable to capitalize. Potsdam outshot Oswego 9-7 in the first.
Just 3:35 into the second period, Olivia Ellis added a third Laker goal. Walber finally got the Bears on the board at 15:03 with assists from freshman forward Alexis Clark (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons) and senior forward Taylor Marcellus (Waddington, N.Y./Ontario Hockey Academy). Potsdam's momentum was short lived as Natalie Giglio made it 4-1 just 1:27 later.
Oswego controlled the play in the third period, shutting down the Bears offense, but sophomore goalie Kayla McCabe (Watertown, N.Y./Syracuse Nationals) made 17 saves to keep the score the same.
McCabe finished with 23 saves and one goal allowed in the final 36:25. Sophomore Alexa Pfeiffer (Sylvania, Ohio/Little Caesar's) stopped six shots and allowed three goals in the first 23:35. Oswego's Mariah Madrigal made 16 saves for the win.
The Lakers were 0-for-2 on the power play and Potsdam finished 0-for-3.
Oswego invades Maxcy Ice Arena on Sunday at 6 p.m. to complete the weekend series.
