Balanced Attack Sends Pipers Past St. Norbert

More news about: Hamline

It was the sort of game coaches dream about. The Hamline women's hockey team got six goals from six different players and didn't commit a penalty all day en route to overwhelming St. Norbert, 6-2, at TRIA Rink Saturday.

Bre Simon added to her D-III leading point totals with a goal and two assists. She had plenty of scoring help from Leah Schwartzmasn, Siobahn Claugherty, Katie Carlson, Molly Garin and Madison Gaffney as the Pipers improved to 10-1-1 overall.

HU came out blazing, accumulating a 20-6 edge in shots on goal in the first period. SNC goalie Anais Aurard, however, held firm, kicking away 19 shots. Simon had the lone success of the period, netting her 11th of the year (and 59th in 68 career games) at 17:09.

The Green Knights tied the score early in the middle frame. Leah Schwartzman continued her hot point streak by untying the score for good at 13:02. Three minutes later, Claugherty registered her first collegiate goal (the eventual game winner). Carlson connected just 41 seconds after Claugherty as Hamline took solid control of the game.

Garin and Gaffney iced matters with third period tallies. The Pipers stayed clean all day and never visited the penalty box. For the game, Hamline outshot the Green Knights, 49-12. Lauren Michael scored both goals for SNC, now 3-9-1 overall.

The same two teams have a rematch on Sunday, January 6 at TRIA. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
