As hockey coaches are wont to say, if you shoot the puck long enough, it is bound to go in.
This is particularly true when the shooters are the quality of Bre Simon, Jordan Hansen and Molly Garin.
That trio supplied the offense for the Piper women's hockey team in a 4-1 triumph over Bethel Friday night at TRIA Rink. Hamline set a school record with 12 games in a row without a loss and improved their overall mark to 15-1-2 and their second place MIAC standard to 9-1-1.
BU goalie Mallory Tidona made them work hard for it.
Hansen got things off to a good start when she went coast to coast to give HU a lead 7:24 into the game. Simon, the leading scorer in D-III hockey, made it 2-0 nine minutes later. Leah Schwartzman earned her first of three assists on that play.
Bethe's Courtney Johnson scored before the end of the period to make it 2-1. It stayed that way well in to the third period despite the fact that HU outshot the Royals, 12-5 in the first period and 16-3 in the second.
Garin broke the ice again on a nifty three way play with Schwartzman and Simon at 8:16 of the third period. 23 seconds later, Simon nailed her second of the night to close out the scoring. For the game, HU outshot Bethel by a 47-12 margin. Jaela O'Brien recorded 11 saves in goal for Hamline.
The teams meet again in Blaine on Saturday, January 26. Game time at the National Hockey Center is 3:00 p.m.
