Pipers Strike Early Often in Win Over Concordia

More news about: Hamline

The Hamline women's hockey team scored early and never let up, steamrolling Concordia, 10-0, Friday night at TRIA Rink. Bre Simon, the top scorer in D-III women's hockey (45 points), scored twice and assisted on three other tallies for HU, which stretched its school record unbeaten streak to 14 games in a row. HU, rated No. 5 in the latest d3hockey.com poll, is now 16-1-3 overall and 10-1-2 in MIAC play. The Pipers remain two points out of first place with five conference games remaining. Their 22 points clinched a playoff spot.

Molly Garin also tallied twice with Katie Carlson, Jordan Hansen, Leah Schwartzman, Madison Kolbow, Madison Gaffney and Dani Wright netting solos.

Garinm set the tone early knocking in the rebound of a Simon shot 5:47 into the game. Two minutes later, Dani Perry spotted Simon behind the Cobber defense. The junior made it 2-0. Less than a minute later, it was Carlson's turn and the tone for the night was set.

The Pipers led, 4-0, after a period and 7-0 after two. The 10 goals were the most HU had scored since garnering 13 in a game at Moorhead last Feb. 3.

The Pipers outshot CC, 43-16, for the night. Garin, the top first year pointgetter in the league (25 points), was the top gunner with eight shots on goal. Perry was next with six.

At the other end, McKenna Hulslander was perfect, knocking away all 16 shots sent his way for her second shutout of the season.

The teams have a rematch on Saturday, February 2 at TRIA. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
