Wright Goal Lifts Pipers Past Cobbers

Sometimes, your best offense comes from the defense.

Such was the case Saturday for the HU women's hockey tea, Blue liner Dani Wright's power play goal midway in the second period proved to be the difference as the Pipers pushed their school record unbeaten streak to 15 games (13-0-2) with a 2-1 win over Concordia at TRIA Rink. Molly Garin had the other goal for the No. 5 ranked Pipers, who improved to 17-1-3 overall, 11-1-2 in MIAC play. The Pipers remain in second place in the loop, two points out of the top spot

It was a much tighter game than Friday night's 10-0 win over CC. Piper goalie McKenna Hulslander was tested often, particularly in the third period when the Pipers were shorthanded on three occasions. The Montanan held her ground, finishing with 23 saves (nine in that third period) to earn the win.

Molly Garin continued her hot scoring ways, garnering her seventh goal in her last six games to give the Pipers a lead 72 seconds into the game. The Cobbers tied the game midway in the period and it stayed stuck at 1 until 10:48 of the frame when Wright, who connected on the power play on Friday as well, pocketed her sixth goal of the season on feeds by Bre Simon and Garin

Hulslander and the Piper defense took it from there, surviving the final 86 seconds when the Cobber goalie was pulled for a sixth attacker.

HU is back in action at TRIA on Friday, February 8 against St. Mary's. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
